Determination of Steel Drum Volume

A. If the user is filling the liquid, it is calculated according to the specific gravity of the product, but enough space must be left for the product to burst by 10% due to thermal expansion (except for products with low boiling point) to prevent the cracking when the barrel falls down and deforms.

B. If the user carries solids, the drum manufacturer shall be required to provide a certain volume of drum for trial installation and then convert it into a drum with the required volume by weight, but space must also be allowed for the wrapping of lined plastic bags to prevent the drum from splitting when it falls and deforms.

C. If the user holds products with low boiling point (generally below 60C), it is necessary to take into account that such products have vapor pressure at a certain temperature and that the vapor pressure of the liquid increases with increasing temperature. In addition, the product filling temperature and the storage and transportation temperature that the barrel may encounter after filling should be considered. Generally, 55 ~C should be taken into account. In some areas, the temperature difference between 60 ~C should be taken into account, resulting in volume expansion of the product and internal pressure in the barrel. The sum of these two pressures must not be greater than the barrel allowed to withstand internal pressure, otherwise the barrel will burst. Steel drums are allowed to withstand internal pressure. D. If the filling temperature of the user is higher (above 60 C), the low temperature of storage and transportation should be taken into account. The temperature difference will lead to negative pressure of the barrel, which will result in the barrel being sucked or the barrel being recessed when touched.

Solutions: 1. Screw plug on filling product after cooling to a certain temperature; 2. Enough space.

E. The height of steel drum, open drum refers to the outside height after removal of cover, closed drum refers to the outside height and composite drum refers to the outside height.
